by CNT-AIT (Spain)
03 Dec 2005
155 firemen spent their ninth day on a hunger strike in Caceres, Spain.
The Press Secretary of the National Committee CNT has requested national and solidarity for the fireman.
The CNT reports that the is situation is similar to the strike of the municipal crane (tow-truck) operators of ACUSSA in Seville and it is being repeated in Cáceres.
The social democratic Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) and the participating unions on the company committees do not support to them. The hunger strike that is putting at risk the life of one hundred fifty and five firemen. The Cáceres delegates beileve it is possible thatthat ten firemen could be hospitalized by weeks end. The CNT will not tolerate the insensitivity shown by the PSOE and the other trade unions.
During the last union elections the other unions have signed a number of agreements. The workers felt betrayed by the position adopted by these unions. These workers went on to form self-organized assemblies.
This way CNT entered completely the conflict, The way the CNT works is the same in all strikes and conflicts. The workers carry out their work and reach decisions by means of the assemblies and without union elections. Therefore, the CNT notices that different types of protests and solidarity can follow one another.Given the CNT-AIT's presence in the whole the State and the rest of the world by means of the I.W.A. (the International Association of Workers), the CNT at state level was ready to fight and call upon solidarity throughout the cacereña in support of the firemen,
The CNT hopes that the situation does not reach a dramatic situation that be caused by a hunger strike.
