Workers occupied Frape Behr factory in Barcelona, solidarity actions needed
30 Dec 2007
The Workers Solidarity Alliance (WSA) has recently received the following information from our Spanish friends. These friends work for the German auto-supplier Frape-Behr. Behr describes itself as "a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems."
The Frape-Behr workers are facing job cuts. Although they have engaged in negotiations with the company bosses and the Catalan State, these have led to a dead end, with promises made by the bosses and State and then broken.

The workers are currently engaged in a plant occupation and urgently request your solidarity.
Although the workers are calling for pickets in front of company owned plants and offices, they are also seeking letters of protest.
Please find links to company locations and addresses on the company website http://behr.de.

Urgent subject: Solidarity request with the workers in Frape Behr

From the National Confederation of Labor-IWA, Barcelona we are supporting to the workers of the Frape Behr factory (sister company of the German Behr) in Barcelona. Behr has reported a labor force adjustment plan (LFAP) to 50 workers and profit limits. For three months the workers have rejected this offer.

Up to now these workers, CNT, FTC-IAC, UGT, CCOO, is occupying the factory to put pressure on the Government to reject this labor force adjustment plan. CNT-Barcelona is supporting to the workers with demonstrations and announcing to people this dispute by means of the press.

CNT ask you to support this fight with demonstration against the Behr factories in your country. Besides it is important to send support messages by emails or faxes to the Government asking it to not support this LFAP. The Catalonian Government must declare in favor of / against this proposal and we hope the workers pressure, the social mobilization and your support make the Government declare oneself against.

The next week (24th – 31st) we ask you to do demonstrations or gatherings in Spanish Consulates or Embassies.

The workers in Frape Behr are fighting for our jobs and the future of 295 families.

The management of the company and the Catalonian Government have deceived us into believing they would carry out the agreement in 2004, which means the future of the factory in Barcelona. For a long time with negotiations, the Behr management and the left-wing Catalonian Government will wish a merry Christmas with a labour force adjustment plan, firing 295 workers. The Frape Behr workers go on in the struggle for the continuity of the factory and for our jobs. We ask your solidarity with the squatting that our colleagues are having.

We need your public demonstration in favour of our fight which is the same like yours.

No to the sackings

Long live international solidarity labour!!

From the International Workers Association (IWA/AIT):

"As you were informed via email sent by the National Confederation of Labor (CNT), workers of Frape Behr factory in Barcelona have occupied their factory in struggle
against plan of the company to fire 295 workers. The Behr company is
situated in Stuttgart, Germany, and it's specialized in manufacturing of
car air conditioning and engine cooling systems. Web presentation of the
company is available here: http://behr.de, and the link provided in the
email of Spanish workers
(http://behr.de/Internet/behrcms_eng.nsf/$all/0B0211D884857DB0C12571E0002931E2?open&qm=topnav,12,1,0)
is showing the list of Bahr locals in Germany and in other countries,
among them France, Czech republic, Italy and Brazil, but also USA and
South Africa! The CNT FRAPE union section has it's own web blog at the
following address: http://cnt-frape.blogspot.com/ ...

During next few days IWA Secretariat will coordinate actions in
solidarity with Behr workers. We are aware that it is holiday season in
some parts of the world, but, as the CNT stressed, need for
solidarity is urgent, and it should be placed in practice as soon as
possible (31st of December being the last date). Minimum would be
sending of protest letters and faxes to Spanish consulates or embassies
and Behr company, but also, where possible, demonstrations or gatherings
in front of consulates, embassies or cultural centers should be
organized (the list of Spanish consulates is available here:
http://www.mae.es/es/Embajadas+y+Consulados/embycon.htm).

We have already talked with [members of the German Free Workers Union] FAU
(where Behr company H.Q. are located) who will take actions. ...

Long live international workers solidarity!

Ratibor Trivunac
on behalf of the IWA Secretariat"
